Our Walserberg is a family affair. How it all started

Irene and Thomas Walch made the Walserberg what it is today. The next generation is already playing its part. Simon is our host in the 3rd generation. With his wife Michelle, the two are a well-rehearsed team. Together with our staff, we bundle all our ideas, our passion and our enthusiasm in front of and behind the scenes, because you are our guests.

For this we say THANK YOU and wish you lots of fun in our gourmet hotel on the Arlberg.

Life’s good when you enjoy your job!

The Hotel Walserberg has been welcoming guests since 1964 – right at the entrance to this skiing and hiking paradise. What once began as grandfather Vinzenz Walch's small bakery has developed over five decades into a lovingly run 4-star hotel.
Today, we are passionately dedicated to your well-being and your enjoyable break in the mountains. Our family is at the heart of the hotel: junior manager Simon and his kitchen team provide culinary highlights, while his wife Michelle warmly leads the reception and service team. Simon's parents Thomas and Irene support the next generation with their experience, assistance and great commitment.

Milestones in the family business

Just like good bread dough, a successful business needs time to mature. Over the years we have invested a lot of steady hard work and dedication to attain our present family-run 4-star hotel. Want to know the secret of good team work? It’s simple: showing mutual respect and really enjoying what you’re doing!

1964 – Where it all began
Vinzenz and Ida Walch laid the foundation for our family history when they opened their bakery in Walserberg. Then, as now, the aroma of fresh bread fills the air – and even back then, one thing was paramount: the well-being of our guests.

1965 – First guests, first encounters
A small café and guest rooms with running water complement the bakery. A meeting place is created where people not only stop for refreshments, but also feel at home.
The café was the après-ski meeting place in the centre of Warth.

1975 – Imperial breakfast
The bakers' guild had organised an apprentice competition. Thomas travelled to Vienna, as he was in his third year of apprenticeship. The theme was ‘breakfast’. Impressed by the Hofburg, the opera and the museums on the Ringstrasse, he felt transported back to a time when the rolls were crisper, the bread more flavourful and the jams fruitier. In the end, his ‘imperial breakfast’ won and he took it with him to the Arlberg.

1979 – Passionate bakers
While Thomas successfully completes his master's examination in baking, Irene completes her master's examination as a hairdresser at the same time.

1982 – The generational change
With heart and drive, Thomas and Irene take over the business and transform the simple guest rooms into a charming bed and breakfast. Their vision: warmth, cordiality and quality in every encounter.
Thomas takes over the management of the bakery and bakes fresh bread every day for hotel guests and villagers.
In December 1982, Irene opens the first hair salon in Warth.

1990 – Comfort becomes tangible
The rooms and bakery are renovated and the furnishings are lovingly improved. A garage is also added. The small house grows, and with it, dreams.

1991 – A big step: Hotel Walserberg
The guesthouse becomes a hotel offering half board, and the restaurant with pizzeria and café opens its doors. Culinary delights and hospitality now go hand in hand.

2003 – Wellness with a view
The Panorama Wellness Oasis is created – a place of tranquillity with views of the mountains and space for relaxation. Here, body and soul can breathe deeply.

2004 – Space for holiday dreams
20 modern designer rooms and suites are added to the hotel.
Martin, who has completed his training as a master baker, takes over the bakery in Warth.
Caroline joins the family business as a receptionist after completing her secondary school education.

2006 – Pleasure meets style
The hairdressing salon has to make way for the Walser Lounge – a meeting place for cosy hours where alpine charm meets urban design.

2007 – Passionate bakers
Martin moves to the original bakery in Lech and continues the family tradition.

2008 – Attention to detail
12 double rooms are renovated. With a keen sense for materials, colours and light, we create rooms that invite guests to linger. Simon completes his training as a hotel manager and joins the team.

2011 – The bird leaves the nest
Simon gains international experience in the summer, cooking in South Tyrol, on Sylt and in Bermuda. In the winter, he manages the service team and looks after the wine cellar.

2015 – Half a century of warmth
We celebrate 50 years of Hotel Walserberg and thank all those who have helped write our history: our guests, our employees and our families.

2019 – The third generation takes over
Simon takes over Hotel Walserberg, while Martin continues to pursue his passion for baking, both in Lech and now at the winter bakery in Warth.

2020 – Fresh look, familiar heart
The hotel gets a new corporate design, and the romantic suites shine in a new living ambience. Modern, clear – and yet still very much ‘Walserberg’.

2021 – A new chapter begins
After more than 10 years, we are opening again in the summer for the first time. At the same time, our in-house brand Berg.Genuss is created – full of regionality and flavour.

2022 – Farewell to the oven in Warth
After more than 50 years, the bakery business in the hotel comes to an end. But Martin remains loyal to the region and now supplies his customers from Lech with the same dedication as ever.

2023 – Together into the future
Simon and Michelle will run the hotel together from the 2023/24 winter season – young, committed and with the loving support of Irene and Thomas in the background.

2024 – Love that connects
In October, Simon and Michelle tie the knot and have now grown together not only as hosts with heart, but also as a married couple. Two people who live the same dream both privately and professionally: to create a place where every guest feels welcome and completely at home.

2025 – Enjoyment & craftsmanship
In May, Simon will travel to Mallorca to further develop his culinary skills for our guests – inspired by Mediterranean flavours and new ideas for enjoyable holiday moments.
At the same time, the dining room will be given a new design and a breath of fresh air – stylish, cosy and with great attention to detail. There is also a lot going on behind the scenes: our staff rooms are being completely renovated and redesigned with a homely atmosphere – because appreciation begins in our own house.

2025 – We celebrate 60 years of Walserberg
A proud anniversary – six decades marked by courage, dedication and genuine hospitality.
60 years full of encounters, stories and unforgettable moments.
And the best part? Our story is far from over.
We would like to express our heartfelt thanks to everyone who has accompanied us on our journey –
as guests, friends or employees. We look forward to many more years together.
Welcome to our home, welcome to Walserberg.

Bakery

In Hotel Walserberg no table is complete without a basket of freshly baked bread. Each morning begins with a speciality home-baked bread of the day. In our family a passion for baking has been passed down from one generation to the next. Brother Martin Walch runs the family bakery in Lech.
